Conquest For Death Gig ‘08

Metal head lovers out there were head banging in excitement when they heard about the Conquest for Death gig which was on the 31st October coinciding with Halloween. It was held at Audio Planet Jam Studio, BDC around 6 p.m. The gig was powered by DISHARMONIC MOVEMENT and presented by PJ Hardcore. I’ve never listened to much metal music myself, thus this gig was an eye opener for me.

The first band who was set to open up the show was Niang. Their name, Niang is derived from the Iban word which means “Souls of the Dead”. Their name is pretty appropriate with their genre of music which is death metal. With Cgat on the vocals, Sai on guitar, Willy on bass and Bondi on drums, Niang delivered an energetic performance which warmed up the crowd for what was in store for them next.

Next off was Bakteria. Don’t worry boys and girls, the only thing that will you get you infected with is their music. The band has been around since 2007 where they are influenced by bands such as the Exploited, the Casualties, Total Chaos, Oxymoron and Rejected Scums. Raycula was on vocals, Manjan on bass, Aten on lead guitar, Ken on guitar and Tim on drums. There’s only one word I feel that can describe this band: Infectious.

Restart was the third band to perform of the night. Sepulx was on vocals, Boi on guitar, Aeq on bass, and Kriss on drums. The band describes their music as hardcore, thrash and fast. The band lived up to their name and made a stellar performance which amazed the crowd. Boi played host to the members of Conquest for Death, by showing them around town.

The evening was continued with Traitor, with Bondi on drums, Timun and Oneal and on guitar, and Bojet on vocals and bass. The audience were seriously beginning to feel the vibe here where a lot of people started moshing. Words only can say so much, it’s best left to photos.

Escape the Plain View’s band members were probably the youngest among the all the other bands. However, do not underestimate their talent due to their age. Calvin was on vocals, Karlos and Petrus on guitar, David on Bass and Noel on drums. Most would assume that Noel was like any other regular drummer, but do not be fooled by this kid’s appearance. The kid can hit, really hard.
Next was Kurasekuase where the band mates describe their music as a combination of grind, crust and hardcore. With Norisko on vocals, Ezai on vocals, Haizan on guitar, Apy on second guitar, Roy on bass and Usu the drums, the band rocked the crowd.

United Kids of Oi were the last local band to perform that night. The United Kids of Oi performed both their fast and mellow songs. They did an awesome cover of Gadisku by Search where the crowd sang along to the song. Kojack was on vocals, Saypul on bass, Roger and Bojeng on guitar, and not forgetting Lan on drums.

The highlight of the night was the band, Conquest for Death. For those who have never heard of the band, Conquest for Death is an American band that has been on tour in Australia, Asia and New Zealand since October 3rd. The room was fully packed when they were playing. There was barely any space to breathe but it was worth it every minute of it. Although they were the last to perform, they were worth the wait.

I was lucky enough to score an interview with the band the next day, before their flight to Kota Kinabalu, where they will be playing next. The band named themselves after the album, Conquest for Death by a band from the 1980’s, the Necro’s. The band has been together for 2 years now. Devon, Robert, Kiku, Craig and Dave formed Conquest for Death with the concept of accomplishing goals they didn’t reach in their prior bands. They are currently signed under the band Wajlemac. The show in Kuching was their eighth so far on the tour. They have released two albums so far, Front Row Tickets to Armageddon and Beyond the Hidden Valley. When asked about how they felt about the local Kuching music scene, Devon stated that he was impressed with how diverse the bands were but still remained closed knit, and that the local bands took pride in their music. While in Kuching, they got the opportunity to taste some local delights including the ever famous kolok noodles and durian. Devon commented the taste of durian wasn’t bad and it was unlike anything he ever tasted. They also got to go on a night boat ride as well visit the beach where the warm sea water welcomed them. When asked whether they would like to perform again in Kuching, Devon responded with an excited definitely.

i think bagong is right also,
as a reporter she has to be at the giggers space when the band is playing so she can get the better review,you guys also can see not many pic taken inside the gig space,it is more outside. we dont want people to know outside,we want they know what is happen inside.
as a organizer of the gig,i still feel grateful to you(sheri) coz of her works,

I’ve worked for a reporter for quite sometime. He brought me under his wing. I’ve there through thick n thin with. Being a reporter is never easy. First do your research prior before the gig and please do more after the the gig. interview the organizer after the show. anyway ur work is quite good. I hope to see a better report from u.

Crew or no crew, experienced or not, we are all kuching people.. n we work together to make our scene big. If we allow small things like this to happen.. shit will evade our scene.

Xtauk hal ehh..yg ku tauk gig CFD ya mayb the best gig ever..PJHC rules..dh cdak tok lelah2 molah gig,knak anok..lak xda gig,ngerepak madah kch tok boring..
