Ushering in the new year with a big bang, Cats FM has teamed up with Kuching Connection Management (KC) to bring in the best shufflers throughout the state for the CATS FM UNITE FEST 2008 GRAND FINALE!!

With the tagline, Music Unites Us, The UNITE FEST 2008 began in January 2008. After 12 stages, involving 80 shuffle groups from all of Sarawak, 15 best groups have been selected for the finals.

Cash prizes, hampers and trophies are up for grabs for the top winners. Before the finale to adjudge the best of the best shufflers in Sarawak, a One on One category is still open for registration and limited for 50 participants only. So for those shufflers keen to take part in the CATS FM UNITE FEST 2008 GRAND FINALE, you still have the chance to prove that you too can shuffle!!

Entrance tickets are sold at RM20 but early birds can get their tickets for RM15.

Theses are  just  fragments of feedback gotten from the crowd who watched Yuna perform at Boulevard Shopping Mall on the 30th of December 2008. ilovekuching.com is proud to present you an interview with Yuna. But before, that, here’s a brief introduction about Yuna. She’s a singer/songwriter from humble Kuantan.With a voice that sounds like none other musicians heard in Malaysia, she started out singing when she was only 6 years old. She wrote her first song when she was 15. She recently released an EP album which has the song, Deeper Conversation which has hearts melting. Yuna performed Permission, Dan Sebenarnya, Peer Pressure ( the song is featured in the short move, the value of my insanity), Rocket, Untitled, These Streets (the only acoutsic song for the night) and Blue Sands. She performed more songs than planned due to the huge demands from the crowd and even DJ Gary himself.

Hi Yuna! How has Kuching been so far?

Hi! I didn’t know what to expect and was very nervous. The fans from Kuching have been very supportive. We’ve gotten a lot of support on myspace. Today has been awesome.

You’ve been dabbling in the music scene for 2 years now. How did you start out?

I started performing in small crowds. It was less scary that way. I was afraid of the reception from others as you can see, I’m different from other female performers..Later on, I started performing in huge events. Through that, we’ve gotten better and we gotten more fans. So far, so good.

Every musician has their own way of drawing inspiration for writing lyrics. Since you write your own, how does the process come about?

Not all my lyrics are based on personal experiences. Some of them, I listen to my friend’s stories, and I write about them. It’s like writing from another person’s perspective. My song, Dan Sebenarnya, is actually about a friend of mine who recently broke up.

Which musicians do you personally look up to and get inspiration from?

Fest, The Cardigans, Coldplay, Fiona Apple

Well, as you can see Kuching is different compared to the scene in KL. How do you find the local scene here in Kuching?

Although the crowd is larger compared to the ones in Kuching, we were suprised that a lot of the fans turned up for the gig tonight. We’re really pleased. I also feel like Sarawak has the biggest number of talents with bands like Hujan.

Last but not least, what’s your shoutout to the readers out there?

Organize more gigs! Should get somore more people from West Malaysia to play here, since there’s more upcoming talents with young ages, such as 16 and 17.
